Rosemarie McGoldrick
21 x 15 cm
Rosemarie McGoldrick makes much of her art around one subject: the life of other animals as impacted by humans, or how such lives intersect with our own animality. Her work on paper is often in mono, calling on long global traditions of drawing in black ink on white paper. Her sculptures, too, use silhouette, line and mono background. Rosemarie is much taken by monumentality and atavism in art, how an artwork may serve to acknowledge remembrance, in honour of and respect for what has passed. She mostly chooses to ignore the memorial convention of the giant public statue, to head indoors instead for the small objet d’art, the domestic interior and the private memory.
Rosie McGoldrick trained at Hornsey (foundation) with the artist Lawrie Preece, at Chelsea (BA Sculpture) with Nigel Hall and Anish Kapoor and at Goldsmiths (MA Fine Art) with the painter Gerard Hemsworth. She taught Fine Art at Sir John Cass, before first leading its BA Fine Art course, then its MFA. She has sculpture on display at the Homerton Hospital and on the Chiltern Sculpture Trail. In September 2026 she exhibited her mutoscope at Stoberry Park Garden’s annual sculpture show in Wells, Somerset. Her drawing was recently shown in the 2025 John Ruskin Prize exhibition at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London.
