Oliver Dorrell (b.1981) is a British artist living and working in Poole, Dorset. He studied Anthropology at UCL before completing an MA with Distinction in Painting at Wimbledon College of Arts in 2018.
Dorrell paints while undertaking long-distance walks through landscapes shaped by historical, political, climatic and cultural forces. His journeys often have a literary or art historical impetus, including a 2022 walk from Milan to Munich, following Pieter Bruegel’s route across the Alps, which resulted in Walking After Bruegel. Working spontaneously in the landscape, his portable paintings record the physical conditions and layered histories of the places he encounters. Recent journeys include the mountains of Wales, the Austrian Alps, and a winter walk in Norway.
