Rebecca Meanley (b.1976) is a London-based artist whose abstract paintings explore colour, gesture, movement and the physicality of paint. Influenced by modernist and abstract painters including de Kooning, Frankenthaler, Guston and Mitchell, her work emerges through an intuitive and experimental engagement with material and surface. Recent works made with pure pigment and rabbit-skin glue have furthered her interest in “painting and ‘unpainting’”, embracing indeterminacy, improvisation and the unexpected. Meanley studied at Nottingham Trent University, Glasgow School of Art and Chelsea College of Art, and is currently completing a PhD at Glasgow School of Art. She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including a solo exhibition at Cadogan Contemporary, London, and was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2013 by Humphrey Ocean.
