Mark Wright (b.1962) is a British artist whose nocturnal, luminous paintings explore landscape as an idea rather than a specific sense of place. Drawing in part on photographs he takes and collects, Wright creates enigmatic landscapes in which natural and organic forms emerge through a cosmic interplay of light and darkness. His work reflects on our relationship with the natural world and the experience of landscape. Wright studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art, and has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally, including solo exhibitions in London, New York, Lisbon and Dundee. His work is held in numerous private, corporate and public collections, including British Airways, Deutsche Bank, the Wellcome Trust and the Royal College of Art. He has also taught and lectured widely at art schools and universities in the UK and internationally. He has exhibited with Vivienne Roberts Projects, including Sottobosco (2024), a two-person exhibition with Laura White.
