Stephen Lewis is a British sculptor whose work explores physical and emotional experience through structure, weight, movement and colour. Working primarily in steel, his sculptures animate the material, creating a sense of movement and resonance even within their apparent stillness. Influenced by Cubism and the work of González, Smith and Caro, Lewis uses colour as an integral element, enhancing the ambiguity and emotional presence of his forms. Born in Ormskirk in 1959, he studied Fine Art Sculpture at Manchester Polytechnic and the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. His work is held in the collection of The Hepworth Wakefield, and he was a recipient of the Bryan Robertson Trust Award in 2025.
