Lewis Baxter is a Berlin-based artist whose paintings explore the relationship between traditional painting and contemporary digital image-making. Drawing on Abstract Expressionism, he works with pigment and oil, acrylic, pastel and ink on linen and canvas, incorporating stencilling and graphic interventions. Overlapping fragments and modes of drawing create complex compositions that suggest depth and scale while revealing the flatness and materiality of the painted surface. His work reflects on the proliferation of contemporary imagery and the tension between the disposable and the enduring. Baxter graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2020 and has exhibited with Vivienne Roberts Projects, Aleph Contemporary and The Centre for Recent Drawing.
