Sabrina Shah (b. 1986) is a London-based British artist whose paintings explore the extraordinary effort, resilience and perseverance required in everyday life. Drawing on personal experience and the shared setbacks of human existence, she reflects on the non-linear nature of progress and the continual need to recharge and carry on. Her paintings incorporate imagery from cartoons, toys and popular culture as symbolic representations of the human condition, exploring play, imagination and the behavioural systems of contemporary society. With their sense of agitation, speed and constant decision-making, her works question our preoccupation with winning and whether a genuine win-win is possible. Shah studied at the University of Brighton, the Royal Drawing School and the Royal College of Art, where she completed an MA in Painting in 2022. Her work has been exhibited with Indigo+Madder alongside Sadie Coles HQ and in the John Moores Painting Prize, and she has been a finalist for the RBA Rome Scholarship and winner of the Heart of England Prize and Castlegate Prize.
