Sharon Leahy-Clark (b.1965) is a London-based artist whose drawing practice explores how we make sense of an often absurd and irrational existence. Working intuitively, she allows images to emerge through repeated marks, imagination and the poetic possibilities of not making sense. Her enigmatic, shape-shifting figures inhabit a space at the edge of language and reason, appearing at times part human, part beast, and seeming to emerge from an unfamiliar world. Leahy-Clark studied Fine Art at the Polytechnic of North London and Middlesex University, graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2001, and is based at the Centre for Recent Drawing in London. A recipient of several awards including the Helen Chadwick Memorial Prize, she has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally, including the Jerwood Drawing Prize, Tate Britain, the Royal Academy and Oriel Davies Gallery. Her work is held in collections including British Airways and The Drawing Gallery. She has exhibited with Vivienne Roberts Projects, including the two-person exhibition Enigma (2024).
