Ann Dowker is a painter and printmaker, born in Sheffield. She studied at Bath Academy of Art and the Central School of Art and Design, and has exhibited extensively since 1990, including with Theo Waddington, Angela Flowers and Art Space Gallery. She taught at Chelsea School of Art and the Byam Shaw School of Art for ten years, and later at the National Gallery and the Royal Drawing School. Dowker printed Leon Kossoff's etchings and collaborated on his Poussin series. A visit to Egypt in the early 2000s led to a lasting connection with the country, where she established a studio in Luxor. Her 2018 exhibition Paintings from Thebes was accompanied by a catalogue with an essay by eminent art historian Juliet Wilson-Bareau. Her work is held in the Government Art Collection, Manchester City Art Gallery, the Australian Embassy, New College, Cambridge, and The Women's Art Collection, Murray Edwards College, Cambridge.
