Pat Andrea was born in The Hague in 1942. After studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, he travelled extensively in Spain, Greece and Latin America. He currently lives and works between Paris and Buenos Aires.
From 1975 onwards, he was invited to exhibit internationally, and his work entered major collections around the world. A painter and draughtsman, his practice has gradually expanded to include monumental works: large-scale wall drawings, such as those recently created at the Centre d’Art Contemporain in Córdoba, Argentina, in 2025, and in the restaurant of Pulchri Studio in The Hague, as well as ceramic walls, such as the one made in Hydra, Greece, in 2017, and outdoor sculptures at Cerro Timbo in Uruguay.
The importance of the project he began in 2003 around the figure of Alice from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland should also be mentioned. This engagement with the writer’s work resulted in two series of large drawings, paintings, various publishing projects, and a touring exhibition of the original works around the world between 2006 and 2015.
A major retrospective was devoted to him at the MORE Museum in Gorssel, the Netherlands, in 2021. In 2023, a solo exhibition at the Paris gallery Laurent Strouk also presented a substantial body of his recent work. In autumn 2025, the Sonia Zannettacci Gallery in Geneva presented a selection of his drawings and paintings.
Pat Andrea was a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1998 to 2007.
He has been a Corresponding Member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts at the Institut de France since 2002.
